Minister For Energy

after studying at Prempeh College, trained as a Medical Doctor at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. After working in Ghana for some time, until 1995, he furthered his education at the Erasmus University in the Netherlands, where he obtained his Master’s Degree. He then worked as a trainee surgeon in the United Kingdom, obtaining his MRCS (Glasg) in 2002. He returned to Ghana in 2003, to pursue careers in Business and Politics, avenues through which he could give back to his society. Dr. Prempeh entered Parliament in 2009 as Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia in the Ashanti Region. On assumption of office in 2017, the President, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed Dr. Prempeh as Minister responsible for Education where he successfully led the implementation of, by far, the biggest social intervention in Ghana’s education sector in the history of our country, the Free Senior High School Policy. This policy saw the country’s High school population leap from 800,000 in 2016 to 1.2 million by January 2021 by removing cost barriers to high school education.

After winning the mandate of the people for the second time, President Akufo-Addo has once again reposed confidence in him as Minister for Energy where he is leading stakeholders through the needed synergies, to achieve a transformed energy sector.  Dr. Prempeh is fully committed at ensuring a robust power sector for domestic and industrial growth within the overarching context of economic growth.
