Eben Apesegah

Geology Manager - GNPC

Mr Eben Apesegah is a Petroleum Geologist by profession and the Geology Manager of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation. He holds a Batchelor’s degree in Geology with Chemistry from the University of Ghana and master’s degree in Petroleum Geoscience from Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, London. He started his career at the Exploration department of GNPC, where he worked as exploration geologist and also offshore during drilling activities. He also spent considerable amount of time working as Petrographer following his training at PetroCanada in Calgary. In the late 90’s he pioneered exploration activities in GNPC on the Voltaian Basin by gathering source rock samples to study the Petroleum System of the Basin. The initial study of the basin became a guide to the exploration strategy of the basin. He has led exploration teams in the Eastern and Western Basins and also been involved in exploration activities with foreign partners. He spent some time working with Dana Petroleum in the United Kingdom on their offshore block in the Western Basin of Ghana. Mr Apesegah was a member of the Integrated Project Team (IPT) on the development of Jubilee Field, which was based in Dallas, United States of America. He later became leader of the GNPC Reservoir Characterization Project, which was conducted in Guildford, United Kingdom.

He took over the leadership of Voltaian Basin Exploration activities between 2014 and 2018. During this period, he mobilized young Geoscientists, Engineers, Finance and Supply Chain personnel and with the help of consultants to acquire the first regional seismic lines over the Voltaian Basin.

He has various certificates in leadership and management trainings and as well as technical trainings in Reservoir Development, Drilling Technologies, Exploration Decision Making etc. He was a Lecturer in MSc Petroleum Geoscience program at the Earth Science Department of University of Ghana for ten years.

With over 30 years industry experience, his current preoccupation is developing young talents for the Oil and Gas Industry in Ghana.
